The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an English language test designed for people whose first language is not English. It is mainly used by students who want to study at colleges and universities where English is the language of instruction.

More than 11,000 universities and institutions across over 190 countries accept TOEFL scores. Along with other English tests like IELTS, PTE (Pearson Test of English), Duolingo English Test, Cambridge English, and Trinity College London exams, TOEFL is one of the most widely used English tests in the world.

TOEFL is managed by ETS (Educational Testing Service), a non-profit organization in the United States. ETS creates and runs the test, and it also sends official score reports directly to the institutions chosen by the test taker. These scores are valid for two years from the test date.
